Low Maintenance Garden With A Covered Patio Grillo Kitchen & Entertaining Areas

Contemporary Garden Redesign

For this project, the brief from our client was to redesign an existing garden to make it more contemporary in style, with seating and entertaining areas, as well as a large family lawn.

The garden was to be designed for the whole family to enjoy and be low maintenance. The client also wanted to incorporate some lighting into the design; spotlights near the entertaining area and patio, featuring a few plants. Moreover, the garden needed to reflect the modern style of the house.

The design revolved around a central artificial lawn, where different seating areas have been created: a composite decking area next to the back patio door, porcelain paving in the right-hand side corner of the garden and a third patio underneath the garden building.

On this patio, we utilised Grillo products and a bespoke covered outdoor kitchen idea to create a truly remarkable space where the client can enjoy outdoor life and entertain.

Beautiful and low maintenance

We used a number of materials in this project: Paloe Blauw vitrified paving to form the patios, paths and stepping-stones, HD Deck Dual composite decking and decorative gravel. All these recommended materials are durable, easy to assemble and easy to maintain. Both porcelain paving and composite decking have very durable surfaces, are resistant to heat, water and severe weather conditions, and have long-lasting colour.

To add some more visual interest and character to the garden, we added three sections of stepping-stone walkways, set in white marble gravel and leading to different garden zones. We arranged a variety of sizes of the same porcelain paving in an unusual pattern, which gave a playful twist to the design. By mixing the textures and colours, we wanted to create a contrasting and modern look.

Covered outdoor kitchen

A fully insulated large garden building / outdoor room with a hot tub, small bar and Grillo outdoor kitchen area was installed during a later transformation. The shining stainless steel appliances of the patio kitchen and the warmth of the dining areas helped create a contemporary outdoor space that was perfect for the entire family to enjoy.

We recommended a Grillo Kitchen to our client, as a registered retailer, as it would perfectly complement the contemporary landscaping of the garden. This particular Vantage outdoor kitchen design included a DeliVita pizza oven, gas BBQ and an outdoor fridge. It was perfectly designed to match our client’s ideal outdoor decor, combining iroko hardwoods with carbon steel elements and durable porcelain surfaces.

Planting for looks and privacy

We decided to keep some of the existing plants and trees and add decorative grasses around a new artificial lawn. Using Deschampsia Cespitosa, Hakonechloa Macra, and a section of pleached trees (Carpinus Betulus), we added height, privacy, and additional screening above the walls and fencing.
